Physical Therapy in School
Welcome to the physical therapy webpage!
What is school based physical therapy?
Physical therapy is a related service provided to students of the Union 61 & Tantasqua Regional School Districts to assist a student with a disability identified through the Special Education Program. Students between the ages of 3 and 22 years, and have an identified disability that impacts their ability to access the school-based curriculum, are eligible for services in the least restrictive environment.
Physical therapists provide services through consultation, direct treatment, training of parents and school staff, and a combination of delivery methods. Therapy services may be provided within a whole class, or within small group or individual treatment sessions in a variety of settings. Settings reflect the student's performance needs and may include the classroom, playground, stairs, cafeteria, gymnasiums, outdoor school environment, and the therapy room. As members of the educational team, in addition to providing evaluations, screenings, and treatment, school physical therapists provide expertise in the acquisition, use, and modification of equipment and the school environment as necessary to enhance student performance and participation. Focus is on functional skills and adaptations that promote the attainment of educational objectives.
Current physical therapy staff in our district includes:
Cheryl St.Onge, PT (Burgess Elementary, Brookfield Elementary, TRHS and TRJrHS)
508-347-7041 EXT 3111 (Burgess)
[email protected]
